So Far So Good

Tiny+crabTurning over rocks to find baby crabs.

Playing with the baby Holsteins at D Dutchman Dairy (after vanilla and English toffee in a waffle cone).

Checking out the barnacles, starfish and sea anemones at Chesterman beach.

Grilled extra-old white cheddar on teeny baguette rounds, topped with melting slivers of perfectly ripe avocado.

Hummus, baguettes and those grainy cookies from Beaches Grocery.

The D Dutchman – what a great place to stop along the way. Their ice cream is delicious and so are their cheeses.

Julie, where is that you’re walking amonsgt the barnacles and starfish? Is it accessible by the public? We’ll be in Tofino in August and my family would love to check it out!

Yes, it’s right at Chesterman beach! The tide was very low though – you have to make sure the tide is out, and not close to coming back in!

One of life’s greatest pleasures: picking up tiny crabs that you find under rocks at the Coast. I still think so even though I am (officially, anyway) grown up.
Keep having an awesome trip Julie!
Also, great article in FFWD- yay for urban gardening!

You probably already know this…but you must head to SOBO (http://www.sobo.ca)for the world’s most killer fish tacos. I believe it’s in the botanical gardens. Enjoy Tofino. If you head to Vancouver Island, try to make it to Fairburn Farm for lunch.

Oh man, D Dutchman Dairy rocks. We used to stop there all the time when my grandparents lived in BC when I was younger. The *cheesecake ones rocked. 🙂

MenuManiac: Julie’s blog was where I was first introduced to SoBo and their fish tacos(this time last year I think) https://www.dinnerwithjulie.com/2008/07/17/day-199-smoked-wild-fish-chowder-ceviche-a-big-salad-with-salmon-fish-tacos-and-key-lime-pie-from-sobo/

You are exactly where you need to be. I’m so glad to see that! Getting pushed off your centre of gravity by the world is not fun. I can see how just BEING there will give you back that equilibrium.

Ooh, that looks like a fantastic time.
I remember walking there on Chesterman Beach – many, many years ago.
    Keep enjoying your trip.

Reading of your “gastro-high” at the legendary SoBo and going back to the post referenced by Erica B, I am so lusting after a bowl of that beautiful Smoked Wild Fish Chowder you’ve commented on previously! Have you managed to wheedle the recipe out of the lovely Lisa for those of us who don’t have a hope in Hades of making the long trek to Tofino anytime soon? Any sign of that SoBo cookbook we’d all devour?

Love Tofino. You’ve got some great shots. Looks like a blast! I’d be jealous but you deserve this vacation.
